Failure leads to Success

Life is a process, that each of us undergo during our existence in this undefined world. Anything that happened and may happen to us is just a result of our action. We have no right of blaming someone because of every single thing that we encounter is a consequence of our conscious and unconscious actions.

Not reaching our department’s grade cut off during my Civil Engineering journey was the most painful experience that I ever encountered. It was painful in the sense that, I think I gave all my best in order to reach the cut off but then I guess my best wasn’t good enough and the most heartbreaking part is that I disappointed my parents. I saw all their hardships just to send me to school, but then what did I do? I mess up everything! But, you know what? Despite of that failure, I still believe that God made that happen for a good reason. He, from the very first time, has a great plan for me because as you can see it, after that incident I reached that field of Education wherein I feel real happiness and contentment. Despite of all the hardships that I am facing, I couldn’t deny the fact that each day of my life is filled with so much joy because of the presence of all the educators and future that surrounds me.

Falling down on my fist attempt of shaping my future is one experience that changed me most. I could say that after that unforgettable experience of my life as a student, I became a more responsible, consistent yet flexible, competent and confident person. I learned to appreciate the value of every little detail of my studies like assignments and seatwork. I also learned techniques on how should I manage my time wisely, prioritizing my studies without also neglecting my social and personal life. Compared to what and who I was before, I could say that I am a lot better right now. Do you know why? Well, it is simply because I am enjoying the things that I am doing and most of all I find happiness and fulfillment in every little thing that I am doing.

TEACHING

“Teaching might be an ordinary thing for somebody but for someone who learned from it, it means everything.”

When I was a kid, I honestly idolized and looked up my teacher in elementary. In my eyes they are the most knowledgeable people that I could only trust aside from my parents. Teachers seemed to be the highest creature made by God! But that perception of my childhood days suddenly changed when I learned to open my eyes and witnessed the unethical behaviors that some of the teachers were doing. But then again, maybe I was meant to become a teacher because as you can clearly see it, I am now pursuing my degree in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, the course which is being degraded by many people. Yes, that’s true! Many people looked at our profession as the most inferior of all because they think that teaching is the easiest and the effortless profession that anyone could have.

Honestly, I used to be one of those stupid individuals who looked down the profession of teaching. I used to believe that teachers are the most “easy-go-lucky” professionals but then as I stepped my foot at the College of Education, I absolutely prove myself wrong! I pity myself a lot, because it took me a long time before I realized that teaching is not a profession that anyone should degrade but a vocation that everyone must lift up!  Teaching is an art because it deals with significant human experiences. Teaching is a science for it deals with different strategies needed by the students for them to learn. Teaching is more than language, no words can provide satisfying explanation describing how hard yet fun it is to teach. Teaching is not just an ordinary action or profession that anyone should take for granted because as the saying goes, “there will be no such thing as professionals if there were no teachers!” if the Engineering students would say, “It is hard to become an engineer” then I am encouraging the educators to reply this way, “It has never been easy producing Engineers”.

If you don’t have the love and passion of portraying the role of a teacher, then I must tell you that you missed half of your life because you don’t know the value and essence of beautifying the lives of individuals through TEACHING.

Reflection on COC-PHINMA's Mission and Vision Statement

“To be globally competent is what it takes to recognize a real professional! “

By the time I learned the mission and Vision of Cagayan de Oro College-PHINMA, I happened to realize how important it is for me to develop myself; physically, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually. In this competitive world that we are living in, becoming a “total person” is an edge for us to excel. The government and other industries do not need a boastful wise man, corrupt intelligent and unprofessional professionals because as we could see in our generation right now “intelligent persons” are very rampant and therefore, companies have a lot of choices. In our society right now, 1 position: 100 applicants is an observable ratio situation.

Let us take my field of specialization as an example. Every year, there are so many Education students who receive their diplomas from different colleges and universities. As a result, there are so many applicants waiting for a job vacancy in either public or private schools. Due to this great number of applicants, the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education are conducting exams and interviews in order to choose the most competent applicant to be hired. I believe that, in the near future I would be one of those future educators who will grab a slot from those job vacancies because I am competent enough that with the advance and holistic training that my beloved Alma Mater is extending to me; with the passionate effort of my instructors and the entire administration of COC-PHINMA in developing and shaping my personality to be globally competitive, I am totally ahead of those other Education graduates from big universities in the city. When I say globally competitive, I am referring to a person who has proficient knowledge and skills, good character and spirit and most likely possesses a pleasing personality. COC-PHINMA’s Mission and Vision is definitely a great guide for instructors ant the entire COC community to develop us, students, in order for us to excel in any field, be the best among the rest and prove to the world that everything is not just a Mission-Vision stated and posted inside our campus but a goal to be realize and to be prove in the very near future.
